![]() ![]() You can certainly improve stuff more than 3 times per value BTW. However, if your gauntlets of strength generate the message 6 times, then clearly the RNG is just screwing with your mind, and you should press on. If your mithril cap is and you get the despite your best efforts message 10 times in a row, and you just ran out of mithril ore and ingots, it probably isnt worth while going yo mine more ore in the hope of obtaining or better. Its all about how much time you are willing to put in really. ![]() From memory, I have smithed stuff at least 3 improvements beyond the first despite your best efforts message, perhaps more. Perhaps body armor, but normally I just drop it (dragon scale and eternium plates are hard to smith due to the PV, I just use one or two defence scrolls)ĭespite your best efforts is certainly not the end. ![]() Cap, girdle and boots should ideally be made of one each of mithril, adamantium and eternium, and use iron on bracers of speed or resistance or regeneration and gauntlets (of strength?) or possibly a crossbow. After this gain a level or two so you can improve smithing skill, then come back and smith up stuff. Then get Thundrarr's 5 quest, let the demon kill smith (dropping anvil and eternium hammer and leaving you free use of anvil) and turn the ore into ingots. Shut yourself into a room on PC:2, eat a couple large rations and let the ants dig. Smithing takes much game time, but not much of your time. But it could also be that DV and PV values are added to determine smithability. But mabye next time you try you get to improve DV, which should be easy if your char knows his smithing business. ![]() So even if your character does everything right, the item fail the improvement-chance-roll.Īlso I think an item like a girdle which has improved to, say, can still get message 3, presumably because the game chose PV to be selected for improvement, and being +8 already it didn't. Testing with a lot of smithing (and even personal experience) shows that even if you get the 3., it still can get better, but the probability gets lower as the items get better. ![]()
